Active Breathwork

Active Breathwork
with Jeff Shepherd

The goal—to breathe into the sensations that arise, trusting that our body will guide us to the places that need our attention. This can include physical sensations, waves of emotion, memories, following our imagination, or all of the above. As we intentionally welcome and move energy through our body we are called to trust the process, to push ourselves when we can, and to ease off when we need. It’s our job to listen to our bodies and respond.

Active Breathwork

The Set-Up

The event begins with an opening circle to check-in, set intentions, ask any questions that arise and to practice the breathing technique together. Then we’ll begin the breathwork session accompanied by immersive loud music and your facilitator walking around the room providing prompts and words of encouragement. You can expect to be a part of a small group of 10-20 participants from all walks of life, and you’re asked to bring your own yoga mat since the active breathwork will be done lying down for 45 mins.

No breathwork or yoga experience is necessary to join the group session, beginners are welcome.

Who can Benefit?

Active breathwork is for individuals who are open to non-ordinary states of consciousness. This includes those who wish to ignite physical, emotional or spiritual experiences that might arise from consciously moving energy in and through the body via the active breath, making the subconscious known.

This practice is open to all adults who are feeling called to deepen their relationship with themselves and their bodies. Frequent attendees include helping professionals, creatives, yogis, people struggling with depression or anxiety, athletes, and those craving a deeper connection with their spirituality.

What to Bring

Yoga mat and/or a blanket, you’ll be lying down for 45 mins. Bring what you need to feel most comfortable during your breathwork. You should also bring a water bottle and an eye mask/bandana to cover your eyes.

Your Lead Trainer

Jeff Shepherd is a Psychotherapist, Yoga Instructor and Breathwork Facilitator based in Centretown.

Some words from Jeff:
“While psychotherapy deepens our understanding of ourselves and the stories that shape us, breathwork is the vessel for experiencing energetic release and the power of love that’s essential for true healing. As a facilitator, I use my breathwork education, yoga teaching experience and extensive psychotherapy training to safely guide others through their experience. I create a container for individuals to feel safe and supported while also fostering opportunities for breathers to reflect on their experience within a group setting. I’m also a spiritual person and love helping fellow travelers on their journey towards wholeness.”
