Yogi Spotlight: Makenzie Dale

It’s a cliché to say “mom knows best,” but in Makenzie Dale’s case, it just might be true. Her mother bought her, her first yoga mat and DVD following a project Makenzie did on yoga in middle school, and the rest was history.

Makenzie continued to nurture her love of yoga throughout her life, even as she pursued a professional path in a marketing. After completing her marketing degree, Makenzie made the decision to devote herself to her teaching practice full-time. Originally self-taught, Makenzie trained with Astanga Yoga Ottawa in 2013.

Since then, Makenzie has consciously expanded her practice by teaching abroad as much as possible. She is passionate about sharing her experience of yoga with people from all walks of life.

Makenzie was drawn to Elevate as a place that embodies all that is truly yoga and she is humbled to be able to share her passion with the Elevate community.

For Makenzie, the paradox of practice is that you must have goals to grow and develop, but you cannot become so attached to those goals that they stand in the way of real progress. In her teaching, she emphasizes the mat as a safe space and yoga as therapeutic. Yoga is a way to heal physically and emotionally; it encourages us to truly know and have compassion for even our flaws. In other words, for Makenzie, yoga is the path to peace.
